Analysis 1: Acoustical Breath

By moving the 4th floor mechanical room down to the basement, the new 4th floor space will now be occupied by the rooms originally placed in the basement. My second analysis will focus on studying the acoustical properties of the original floor system for the 4th floor mechanical space. I will be determining STC values and whether or not they are suitable for the new purpose the space will be serving. If they are over designed I will be redesigning and looking at the cost savings.

Analysis 2 Mechanical Breath

This breath will focus on studying the thermal efficiency between the original exterior wall design and the new design. First I will be evaluating the different materials being used in both wall designs in order to calculate and compare the overall R-values of each. Second I will be looking at the way in which each system was built. This will allow me to determine the overall quality and how likely each system is to meet is thermal design requirements.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Michael Walsh. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design
